A movie star who wants to be left alone
Our movie star made it out on her camping trip

Today was a long day at work, which was then followed up by a long evening trying to finish a paper for my capstone. Fortunately, I finished my paper as I had hoped. It probably needs some serious revision, but that's tomorrow or Saturday's problem. Tonight I can relax, knowing that it is done.

This takes me to my writing prompt for the day. Jessica Brody and Joanne Rendell covered the goals that our characters have. They have something they want or need to accomplish, have, or eat. The writing prompt was simple enough, "What do they want?" The twist was that I had to pick a number between 1 and 10, then turn to the next page to see what I had picked. I chose the number 6 and found that my character was a movie star. Now to see what they wanted. Again, pick a number between 1 and 10. I picked 9. To my amusement my movie star wants to be left alone by everyone! I promise, I didn't peek at the options. It just worked out more realistic than I expected. (Joanne got a 99 year old woman who wants to find her missing mother!)

So without further ado...

Our movie star

She should be enjoying her time off. She didn’t need to get up insanely early for a morning shoot, nor did she have the pressure of memorizing lines and preparing her character. No one was telling her how she needed to act or need to pretend she was in love with a co-worker. None of that at all.

And yet, she sat at home wishing she could go out. For all the work it took to become a movie star, nothing really could have prepared her for the reality of fame. One day, you are struggling to get people to notice you. Then, after a big break, you can't get people to stop noticing you!

If she went to the store, people would stop and stare. Or whisper and try to hide what they were doing. Or worse, someone would run up to her and make a big scene. All she wanted to do was just enjoy some time being a person. A normal person who could do what they want.

Perhaps she could go camping somewhere. Some place far from crowds of people. After all, who would expect a movie star to be carrying a backpack with a tent and a sleeping bag? The more she thought about it, the more appealing it was.

She didn’t have to work for a couple of weeks. She just needed camping gear and a place to go. Ugh! Getting camping gear would mean going to the store. But… perhaps it would be worth it. She could look forward to several days where no one paid her any attention. Because why would someone like her be there? No cameras, no glamour, no fame. Just a few days in nature and being herself.

With that decided, she picked up her phone to find her new temporary home in the woods. Or maybe the beach…
